Job Description:

This position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations and delivery of HIV Prevention to include counseling and testing activities, outreach and syringe exchange. This position recruits, coordinates, and supervises volunteers and students who provide HIV testing services. This position assists in the supervision and coordination of various testing clinics and provides testing services as appropriate. In addition, is responsible for data management and funder reporting in collaboration with the Quality & Evaluation Manager and Prevention Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with Clinic staff to coordinate the provision of HIV prevention and testing services including expanded testing.
  • Coordinate and supervise HIV prevention and testing in the clinic and community settings to ensure that adequate staff/volunteer resources are available to provide HIV services at all required times.
  • Ensure the implementation of routine quality management activities concerning all program activities (i.e. client records, testing logs, lab processes, etc) according to Kansas City Health Department and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services standards.
  • Oversee the accurate completion of all client files and associated paperwork (i.e. scan sheets, lab requests, etc….) and ensure that all program related reports are completed and submitted to the appropriate agency and Prevention Manager in a timely manner.
  • Complete the timely submission of appropriate follow-up paper work (i.e. health department regulated reports for the reporting of HIV and maintain confidentiality of all records.
  • Coordinate Linkage- to- Care services with appropriate staff and the integration of HIV primary care services for all new HIV+ clients.
  • Work with the Clinic’s Evaluation Department to efficiently maintain all database programs associated with HIV prevention services provided and that client satisfaction surveys are conducted.
  • Maintain and revise as needed a program manual relevant to HIV prevention and testing activities (i.e. policy and procedures).
  • Recruit, train and supervise program volunteers and students to provide HIV prevention services adhering to program policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Clinic’s Prevention Counseling and Rapid Test Training for program staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate HIV educational updates for program staff and volunteers, program related communication with staff, volunteers, community agencies (via mail, e-mail, newsletters, etc….)
  • Order program supplies as necessary.
  • Work in collaboration with Prevention Manager to assist with the development of grant proposals and ensure that all grant related deliverables are met including budget expenditures.
  • Attend meetings of the Kansas City Transitional Grant Area Comprehensive HIV Prevention and Care Planning Council and Missouri Community Planning Group as well as other community meetings as appropriate.



  • Must have strong PC proficiency and MS Office skills.
  • Successful completion of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services HIV Counseling and Testing Training
  • Must be able to manage time effectively in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle and keep extremely sensitive and confidential information.
  • Must be able to work for more than one individual at a time, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules supporting clinic events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of health care and practice with diverse populations and cultures.


Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • This position may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients in working environment;
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear;
  • The employee regularly is required to move about the building;
  • The employee is expected to travel by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions;
  • May be expected to drive to community meetings, client homes or other agencies;
  • May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients;
  • Employee will regularly have to lift up to ten pounds.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, health education or related field required.
  • Six months experience in healthcare or related field preferred
  • HIV/AIDS prevention experience with the target population preferred.
  • Additional certifications and education in community health is preferred.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills with ability to relate to people with diverse backgrounds and sexual orientation.
